R&GVRR
#1654 North Out of Scanlon's Curve (352K MP3)
R&GV1654 exits Scanlon's Curve and accelerates
toward Reid's Crossing on the museum's demonstration
railroad heading timetable north. We hear the horn
and bell as we cross Reid's crossing, a farm crossing
along the way, and continue to accelerate upgrade. |

Eastman
Kodak #9 Starting (265K MP3)
All is quiet until we hear the click of the Control
switch followed by the fuel pump switch. After the
fuel pressure is up, the engine start button is pressed
and EK9's Alco 539 engine roars to life. Having already
run this day (June 21, 2003), the engine is warm,
starts quickly, and idles smoothly. |

Eastman
Kodak #9 Passing Switch #6 (450K MP3)
After climbing the hill of our Industry Yard,
EK#9 clears the points at Switch #6 and begins
to accelerate down the museum's mainline. After
climbing a short grade, the engine throttles down
only to have to throttle back up to climb the next
small grade. At the crest of the second small grade,
you can really hear the turbo whine! |

Eastman
Kodak #9 Idling (197K MP3)
Listen to our Alco RS-1, Eastman
Kodak #9, idle as
it sits in the R&GV Railroad Museum's Industry yard waiting
for its next assignment. You can hear the classic Alco
sound of the six cylinder 539 diesel with the 'whistle'
of the turbocharger.

Listen to the very loud pony motor on our

to start the main diesel engine.

Buda
Engine from Plymouth BL Rolls Over (107K MP3)
February 1st marked the 1st time in many years
the Buda engine from the R&GV Railroad Museum's Plymouth
BL gas-mechanical locomotive has rolled over under
its own power! Brought to the museum in derelict
condition, the engine has been completely rebuilt
so this was beautiful music to the members of the
R&GV Railroad Museum. |

Nickel
Plate #79 Starting Up (200K MP3)
Listen as our Alco RS-1, Eastman
Kodak #9, idles while our Alco S-4, Nickel
Plate Road #79, starts on the next track over. On top of the idling of the
#9, you can hear the low oil pressure alarm bell ring in 79's cab as the
start button is pressed. This is followed by several blasts of exhaust as
79's engine comes to life and eventually comes up to speed to provide a double
dose of the sound of dueling Alco 539 diesels. |

USA
#1843 Getting underway (240K MP3)
We find our Fairbanks-Morse H12-44, USA
#1843,
idling and waiting to make a move. With two blasts
of its horn and with the ringing of the bell, the 1843
slowly pulls a string of cars out of one of sidings
at the R&GV Railroad Museum. |

USA
#1843 Climbing the hill (370K MP3)
USA
#1843, our FM H12-44, climbs the hill out
of the Industry yard trailing caboose, Erie
C254.
All is quiet with just the birds chirping until you
start to hear 1843 pulling up the hill and going
past; signaling an acknowledgement as it goes by. |
